Can u use a Disco-1 Front Driveshaft as a replacement on a Puma Front Driveshaft?

		Gents...
Does anyone know if u can run a Disco-1 Front Driveshaft as a replacement for the PUMA front driveshaft? And if so, what are (if any) the benefits?

That's interesting as a mate has done it to his 130 puma... the people doing the suspension work on his car said it would help eliminate the binding up on the Yoke at the TC end @ full flex as the one on the Disco driveshaft is more "open" & won't bind up. I know the Puma Uni-joints on the front driveshaft are larger than the ones on the Disco & I also "assume" the flange bolt pattern is the same as well...
I've just never heard this being mentioned before as being possible but it has gotten me intrigued though...

SupporterOK then.. I may be that 0.001% wrong, but going from the Gwyn Lewis website ... and their pretty looking drive shafts:
D1 front prop Working length :- 637mm + – 8mm
Defer Puma Working length :- 700mm + – 8mm
This is the info they have for their 1310 shafts.
The info for the std shafts only state closed length ... D1 605mm and Puma 675mm

Cool thanks for that info... I'll have to make the effort to go and actually check out exactly what they have done....
Just one thought though... I haven't looked yet but what end is the slip joint at on the front shaft? If they are both at the TC on the D1 and Puma, then maybe this is what they swapped??
Is this possible? I still can't see there being much difference in the yokes?? Maybe the smaller yoke allows for greater movement??

SupporterUnlikely, you may well find that the D1 shaft is right on the end of its splines.
There is no advantage.
If you get the odd Defender with a rumble type sound on off throttle after a +2" then using a D2 front shaft (but an actual good quality one) will solve that, but only to the end of TD5.
The std Defender prop shaft doesnt always like the sharper angle after a lift.
You can also get a double carden for a Defender TDCi (puma)
