Rick, what box is in the 2.2 auto Ford Rangers?
I have a feeling that it might bolt straight in , seeing the Defender and the 2.2 Ranger use the same manual configuration.
Hello all
Due to a deteriorating lower back and currently left leg problems due to same, at some time in the (perhaps) near future, or further along I
might need an auto box, or alternatively move my deffie on (not likely); daughters want it
Questions here are:
- Is there a "conversion"/converter, around SE Qld, or on whole East coast,
- Which slush box would go straight in, D1, D2, or Transit, (noting that D2 box needs a computer and ECU interface???)
- On D1 the diff ratios between auto and manual are different, auto being "longer/leggier",
- Which box would give similar legs to the MY09 6 spd manual final drive?
Look forward to comments
Cheers
Rick F

All the parts you need are available here to fit the 6 or 10 speed

Momentum 4x4 in Wauchope (NSW) have done a 6R80 to LT230 conversion. Not sure of the deets.
the 6R80 output spline is 31. There is merit in researching for Ford to LT230 adaptors using a 31 spline adaptor. 6R80 came in 4wd config in US. Could get the 4wd extension housing and make an adaptor plate to bolt to the LT230 based on the adaptor shaft length. Or find a gear cutter machine shop in Oz to broach the LT230 input gear to 31 spline. Not sure of the material thickness but the gear cutter would advise. That solution is a close coupling arrangement.
if you are willing to use a US transfer, the Dana 300 is right hand drop. 2 negatives, its a 2wd to 4wd box not constant 4wd and is centre output (which should be fine in a 110). Early Dodge used a right hand drop NP205 but its a beast of a transfer.
It's all possible with time/money/brains.
