When it says it’s hot is it actually boiling? If the gauge says max for that long it should be.
Good to hear. I’d start with the sender unit. It’s more likely and way easier to change.Quote:

Makes life so much easier to locate problems and good just to gauge running temperatures of gearbox, diffs, hubs etc

Bit of a long shot this but I will throw it in anyway. I was having bother with my alternator (it turned out to be faulty wiring coming from it) and it would send my temperature gauge into the red.
"Close encounters of the third kind" is on the television. When the spaceship passed over Richard Dreyfus's work truck the temperature gauge shot into the red........
