    TD5 130 rear diff whine

    G’day everyone

My TD5 130 (2006 dual cab with ~160,000 km) has had a loud diff whine for a fair while. The pitch changes with speed and only happens under load, not coasting. I bought the car with only 50,000 km, but I think it had hard a hard life before I got it. I haven’t done a lot of off road and no heavy towing, unfortunately mostly just highway driving thanks to work getting in the way of real life.

I had a mechanic swap out the diff with a good (I’m told) 2nd hand replacement and it only made a marginal improvement so his next recommendation was to look at changing the rear to a Salisbury. I get where he’s coming from, but I’m not keen on the amount of work involved, the reduced clearance or relying on a different lot of 2nd hand parts of unknown age or mileage so I’m looking at other options.

Ashcroft’s Heavy Duty 110 rear differential is where I’m leaning at the moment. The main downside seems to be that it limits the choice of diff lock if I decide I want to fit something in the future. Has anyone had any experience with these?

If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd be keen to hear what's worked.

    Cheers

    BJ

    Hi,

we are offering these with either the stock 4 pin diff or our locker, you can fit any other type of diff centre assuming its for the 'rover' axle ie 90 or Disco type longer housing diff and also you have to drill out the crown wheel bolt holes in the centre for the bigger bolts,
