Intermittent Power Loss on 2007 Puma TDCi 90

    Hi all,

Appreciate you taking the time to read.

I've owned my 2007 puma 90 since last November - I love it, never found a car I am more at one with lol.

However it's boot space is proving to not be enough for the needs of my growing business now and I'm looking to sell to get a van. I have this one reoccurring problem with it though...

I can drive around town all day no problems but after about 20 minutes of driving at 40mph+ I will get a loss of power. The engine won't stop completely but when I put my foot down the speedometer barely moves an inch. This will continue until I turn the ignition off and on agains (sometimes I do rolling down the highway :S). After that it immediately comes back to life for approximately another 20 mins when the same thing happens.

I want to get to the bottom of it before I sell it but no engine light or error codes come on and I can't find anything out there. I've had the Flow meter replaced to try to solve it and also the intercooler and radiator replaced for other reasons. It is on 75k miles incase that helps.

Any ideas will be very welcome!

    Thank you,
    Sam

    Hi,
Read the instructions in the owner's manual on disconnecting the battery and do that, as per the book. Then reconnect it.
I have had similar symptoms when I stall and restart without turning the ignition off for a few seconds.
May or may not work for you though.
    Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion! I will give that a go over the weekend...

It could be a split in an intercooler pipe, had this on my 90.

Check the coolant level. It should be in line with the seam on the plastic bottle. You should just be able to get the tip of your finger wet in you get it in. The Puma has a built in safety mode whereby it will shut down if the engine temperature reached a certain level. It will behave as normal once the temperature drops.Check the rubber hoses where the ends have clips on them to hold them in place. Check carefully the hose on the passenger side with the big circlip type clamp. If this was removed at any stage and not replaced correctly it will work loose allowing coolant to escape. It happened to our 2008 Puma and I replaced it with a hose type clip. Also check your water pump for leaks. This is on the passenger side too.
