It's odd as you don't need to remove the starter motor when removing the gearbox to do the clutch.
The starter motor on the Puma began to make a funny noise on kicking so I knew attention was due. Within two weeks it stopped working but did make a very good bag of nails sound. I could not believe how quickly it collapsed. I was actually awaiting a call back from the garage about getting the starter motor seen too. The reason for this sudden catastrophic failure was due to the following.
In 2018 the Puma went into a garage who I trusted and who had served me well. The clutch was changed so I can only surmise that the starter motor was removed during this process and refitted afterwards. Here lies the problem.
If you look at the diagram included in the link, you will see that there are two small dowels, TYT500020, that go on the bolts fixing the starter motor to the engine. These were not fitted when the starter motor was refitted. So over time the starter motor worked loose. The mechanic who is working on it now told me that the starter motor was loose to hand when he went to work on it. Anyway once the starter motor began making the funny noise I stopped using the Puma except locally. It is just as well as it failed completely when it was parked nose in to a wall in our yard.

Who is to say that the dowels were not fitted originally Before the clutch was replaced?
