Black or Silver Alloy Rims on a White 110 Defender?

Thanks for that... it's obvious that rim colour is a very personal choice... When I was a lot younger, I always had white rims on my white 4WD's but now that is not a colour I would prefer. Black is the easiest and u can obviously paint or touch-up the rim with the tyre still on as any overspray is not a big issue with black tyres.

As I've mentioned b4 I'm running the OEM factory Alloys but I'm not a real fan of the off-set on them. So, I've got to make up my find as to whether I just buy new black steelies (the cheapest & preferable option) or find some 2nd hand Alloys with a more suitable offset (might be difficult - do not want to buy brand new Alloys due to the cost)

With the Steelies, I'd like to have the circles instead of the normal triangle design or at least the D design. Unfortunately these Circle or D design in a 7 or 7.5 steel rim is not that common to source...

You could also consider the military specs steelies, like the wolf model.

Yes, that's an option but they are fairly heavy I believe and I still want to keep to a similar weighted rim that I currently have

You have also an excellent option with the Discovery 1 steelies, I have a set and they look great on the 110.

TLDR: go black and alloy.

I would go black.
When bro gave me his D2(white), it had black steelies on it. They were buckled and bent and I need to sort that.
I found a set of alloys to suit and all alloys on D2 are silver. Steelies were heavier, even tho tyres were smaller on them .... 50kg less weight all up.

Car then looked weird white with silver wheels, but all I wanted was straight wheels, and the lighter weight was a bonus. The spare wheel was the striking obvious lighter wheel to need to deal with.

Bro wanted the D2 back, and not long after he repossessed it, he painted the alloys black. Totally different look, and overall I reckon better.

Yes agreed.... I already have a set in the shed but having the same offset as the oem alloys I'm not really achieving what I'm looking for. Better turning circle and also not to have the tyres rub on the rear spring perch would be a good thing too

The next thing for MY13 Defender was tyres and rims.

Am wanting to go the black and have looked around for some sawtooths , have been moving the car towards and "Adventure" spec.
Have changed the grill and painted the headlight surrounds black, was grey, a massive improvement in looks I reckon, need to change the letters on the bonnet tho.
For the ute (MY94) I got some D1 steelies which where grey and got them powder coated white, not an exact colour match but on a faded farm ute look really good, they are currently running some 235/75/16 mud pattern.
These get borrowed by MY13 when I need to and look really good and a noticeable improvement in ride over the std. continentals.
But she does need her own set of boots.
I would like to go towards a 33" tyre size which I think is a 285/?/16 but got lost in the whole offset thing, didn't want to keep the std flares.

So would be keen to hear what you decide.

My thoughts are;
white rims on white car look good, smart, matching the body colour gives a more considered presentation, a more subtle look.
black rims on white car also look awesome, but its the contrast that gives you a more bold statement and you also need to consider some other black bits, but less can be more.

Its a personal choice depending on what "vibe" you want from your car. I think either way you will be happy with the change from the std. boost alloys

I'm also considering wrapping the roof in black of the MY13

Sorry meant to say I want to keep the std. flares, which may push me away from a 285 to 255/?/16, Don't want to go 17'
"'s or 18"'s. I have the D1 one rims on trailers etc so it mimimises spare wheel requirements and means I can chop and change fairly easily if the need arises.

Anyway i do agree with you that black rims but they have to be a high gloss they will go with black grille & headlight surrounds clean UV polyglase protecting spray stuff on wheel arches & black wheel arches darkened windows clean rear cross member & your black roof rack with black checker plate on the bonnet areas.Rims best option would be 16x7.5 but need a correct offset to miss rear spring towers on up travel.As you know steel rims best for repairing when dented.Check out Home - KBS Coatings (tough paints).

With the Steel Sunnies in a 16x7.5, I'd like to find ones that have the "O" holes instead of the Triangles. The "D" would be my next choice. The only problem with wanting the "O" holes is I can't seem to find any Steelies in a 16x7.5, they all appear to start at a 16x8 width rim :(

unless someone can guide me to where I can buy the 7.5x16 with "O" holes steelies (not Wolf Rims)?
