Pulled the motor today and a disappointing discovery.

So chasing a 200tdi block, preferably with a reasonable crank/rods/pistons. In Brisbane area.
Thats a major bugger. Hopefully you can use the motor parts still if they're required.
Yep, it is. The turbo, starter, AC, alternator, power steer etc all seem good. We haven’t taken the head off yet. If that’s also US, will consider a 300tdi/R380 or maybe a 4BD/LT95 option.Quote:

The head is off and looks pretty good, but will get it checked to confirm.
It looks like the blow-by was caused by head gasket failure between the cylinder and push rod. A fairly easy fix in retrospect.

Picked up a new block today, complete with internals. It looks good too.

This weekend I finished pulling the original motor down and salvaging was what was left after putting a rod through the side. It looks like the big end cap nuts came loose on number 4 piston.

And the replacement block is cleaned up, on the stand and ready to pull down.

Sump off. Everything is looking fairly ok inside so far.
Next weekend will get to check out the bearings.
There is no real indicators of why this motor was removed. Maybe it was a head or gasket problem, and the previous owner decided to swap it out for another. Don’t know.
