Are there any tips and tricks involved in reassembling the power steering circuit in a January 1993 Defender 110 with a 200tdi motor?

When I bought Snowy it had been working on the original owner's farm since new. During that time the power steering pump had developed a leak and the whole immediate and surrounding area had been covered with multitudinous layers of bull-dust, grease, and oil - including caking the alternator inside and out with crud.

I have bought a new power steering pump and would like to get the power steering system functioning properly again. Can anyone please clue me in on anything I need to watch out for getting power steering back operating in Snowy again? You assistance will be most gratefully appreciated.
