    Defender Key Blanks

    Hi all,

I'm trying to cut a spare set of keys for my '95 tdi300 Deefer and can't seem to find a generic blank. The only blank I've been able to find thus far is a LR blank that's $80... Although, the keys that came with the car are both Silca blanks - LF 10 (ingnition) and UNI 8 (locks). Just wondering if anyone's been able to find a generic blank for a Deefer.

    Cheers, Will

Bloke near me claims to have over 6000 different blanks ( OK, not all are for cars ). If nobody else nearer chimes in I'll send you his details. He'd probably post them. He had blanks for my OKA.

    Hello Will,

Your message reminded me that I only have one key for my 1993 Defender 110. So, I went online and checked the first port of call to get an estimate to work off. Holy Crap .... Land Rover Defender 90/Defender 110 Uncut Key Blank CWE500390 Genuine New AU $246.60 from the USA + $36.00 postage.

If I find another cheaper source I will let you know. If you find a cheaper source could you please let me know.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

At that price I'd expect a free Deefer with each key!

Try LR Automotive in Brisbane. I got a blank for a Discovery 2.

Went to my local kiosk cutter in the shopping centre to get a spare for my Disco. Without me letting on the brand, the guy took one look at my key and said he couldn't cut a spare. I asked why not and he said its a Land Rover key. I asked how do you know that, and he responded he used to own a LR. He said I would have to source a blank from a LR supplier. Local LR didn't have any, neither did a local independent.

That sort of nonsense drives me nuts. I had the same experience with a locksmith who "specialized" in cars. Wouldn't cut a D2 key because it was a "Range Rover" key and would need programming. What rubbish. It's just a key FFS!. My D1 key fits my D2, and v v ( not to turn, the cut is different ). They are Valeo, but Silca do blanks.

    Deefer keys are probably simpler.

Interestingly I just checked my OKA key. It also fits both Discos. I shouldn't be surprised, as the column with its switches is from some Leyland or other. There are millions of things these keys fit.

Locks are a bit of a hobby. Perhaps I should see if I can get all three cars keyed alike.
