    Door window glass thickness differences

Early 110’s were 5mm glass for the door windows. It changed to 4mm - possibly when they changed from the lift up door handles to push button.

I recently had a drivers window replaced and despite me telling the repairer that it was 5mm and them taking about 2 months to supposedly source one from LR - The glass that got fitted was only 4mm. Rattles like crazy in the door channel.
I’m sorting that out with the repairer, but given it seems the 5mm glass is like rocking horse poo - does anyone happen to know if it’s possible to fit the 4mm glass bailey channel into the early doors that had 5mm glass??

Can the Bailey channel be replaced with this (I'm pretty sure it suits 4mm as it's tight on 5mm). It's about 5 metres in length.

Would have LR gone to the trouble of changing door tops?

    ^^ Unlikely.

Coincidentally, there is a similar thread about 4mm vs 5mm on RangeRovers.net at the moment.

For those of RRNET: RRC window “felt” channel | Range Rovers Forum

    One reply stated:

So the window glass actually reduced thickness from 5mm to 4mm in a running manufacturing change around the end of the 1988 model year. So... the felt is probably different (wider channel) for the thicker windows... the thinner window RRC's and parts are much more common in the NAS market fyi... I'd double check this. Order for the thicker window glass for a 1987.

Later door tops are pressed steel not welded so it’s possible.

Or they just changed channel felts

That's what I reckon. Thinner glass is cheaper.

    Thanks guys.
Think I’ll order a channel kit for the thinner glass and see if it fits.

^^ if you are going to order the kit from KLR, why not ask if you can get a sample to try?
