Front End Query
Hey folks,
A quick question or two related to the front end of my 1992 200Tdi Defender:
I'm aware that there seem to be a number of combinations of spline-types for the diff pinion/flange, inner halfshaft splines and outer halfshaft splines in early Defenders. I'm being a little lazy not reading more before posting here (and I am not with my vehicle at present, so can't start pulling things apart and peeking at them), but thought that, whatever else I find, throwing the question out here can hardly hurt.
My '92 Defender is, as far as I know, standard in the front end. The outer halfshafts/drive members are 24-spline.
What is the spline setup most likely to be found on the pinion/flange (and, of slightly lesser importance right now) the inner halfshafts? I want to change the pinion bearings and it will help to know if there were any differences in the bearings at any point for different-spec pinions.
The part numbers I have seen (which I think would cover all models anyway) are 539707 for the outer bearing and 539706 for the inner bearing.
Cheers,
John

Righto, then, I'll just assume that those part numbers are the correct ones for all types and go from there...
