I'd value some advice please. I need to replace the long range tank on my 1984 V8 County and my current thinking is to buy a standard 80 Liter tank to replace it as one can buy tanks marketed as working for 1986-1998 vehicles for a pretty sharp price.

But all those tanks are quite specific - 1986 on when (I think for V8s at least) there was an in tank fuel pump rather than an external pump that my 1984 V8 has. So can anyone tell me if there is a fundamental difference in the original fuel tanks between pre 1986 Countys and Post 1986?

My gut feeling is that, assuming the attachment fittings are the same, that a post 1986 tank will work with possibly some fettling regarding the fuel lines, but before I potentially waste a few hundred dollars on a replacement fuel tank I thought I'd see what the feeling is here.

Thanks in advance for any wisdom.

Michael

PS: My workshop manual does not help - it only shows a schematic for a tank with an intank pump. Perhaps the parts manual is more illuminating, but sadly I don't have one.
PPS: And yes - an 80 L tank on a V8 County will result in a short range, but I rarely do long distances in the V8 any longer so I don't see that as a big issue. What is an issue (and why I need a replacement) is the amount of rust and debris in the tank that is causing problems with the fuel lines and pump!
