I don't have any suggestion except, hell you are half way might as well keep coming to Perth and I will do the service

Thanks for the offer Daz. Hopefully one day we will make it all the way to Perth but probably not this time. We will be heading east after coming down the Tanami and the Canning.

The bottom of the The Canning is less than 1,000kms from Perth ......... you could take a short detour in your trip and get Daz to do an early service.

Last year I was travelling from Darwin to Sydney and took a short detour to spend a few days on Kangaroo Island. Somewhere I'd been meaning to visit for decades and thought I should do it now rather than later as having passed my 'three score & ten' I'm not sure how much time is left!

If you're travelling the Canning Stock Route I would assume you're capable of doing a service on your vehicle and that you carry spare air, fuel and oil filters and some oil, grease gun etc? The only challenge is where to get rid of your sump oil.

You put it back into the container the new oil was in and carry it with you for the remainder of your trip. You then have oil for an emergency situation, should one occur.

But sadly ....

Life is full of opportunities and compromises. The Canning is an opportunity too good to miss given I will be entitled to my OBE at Christmas and the compromise is that my wife has limited the number of nights she will be away from the comforts of home and her garden. So no service in Perth thanks Daz.

And as for doing my own service, yes more than capable, just not inclined. I would not have thought getting rid of the oil from a Land Rover was a problem. Certainly my mates believe keeping it in is a greater issue. And in any case, I believe in limiting the weight to necessary items and preferably items which have at least 2 uses. Can't think of a second use for a grease gun.

Hi Oldie,
When you say service, I assume you mean oil and filter change, maybe a squrt of grease?
Surely any mechanic can do this, you could supply the oil and filter, carry the filter and buy the oil in Alice, if it's to hard for them to supply.
