    TD5 Fuel pump replacement.

Over the past few years, have been noticing that my chipped 2005 TD5 Defender can get up to 100kph, but not much more. Has been loosing power going up hills also, and need to downshift. Replaced the MAF sensor, and improved a bit, but not much.
Booked it in with my local LR mechanic at LandyCentre Cairns, and Rene put a pressure gauge on the fuel line before the rail. Was supposed to read at least 60psi. Mine was at around 20psi. He queried me on when was the fuel pump changed, and was it OEMl. Changed it around 10 years ago, and was an aftermarket one. He informed me they usually get around 18 months tops out of aftermarket ones, so was lucky. Has been making lots of noise for a while now, and needs replacement.
I have been up to Cape York and the surrounding areas for the last two years, and just made do with it.
I ordered an OEM pump from the UK, and it took a month to arrive at my door.
Prepped the back to make an access point, and had to remove drawer. Measured, and diriled an inspection hole, and adjusted the access point from what I saw. Used the electrical plug as roughly the centre of the sender unit..
My fuel pump was cheap, as it is just the pump, so had to disassemble the old one, and replace it with new.
Hardest part of the whole procedure was getting the lock ring to start, whilst holding the spring loaded pump in place. Thanks to Daniel at Hypertuned, who suggested putting some rubber grease on the old seal to help it sit in fully, whilst turning the lock ring. This did the trick, and was tightened up using screwdriver, and hammer.
Now to close up the access port, and put the drawer back.
Went for a drive, and was much more responsive to the throttle, so happy camper.

Did you use the LR tool to remove the locking ring??

If not what method did you use??

If you have a long range tank, you won't need to worry about the locking ring as most of them have a bolt-down ring for the fuel pump.
