I have always liked the idea, it does make a Defender more Camel Trophy like or expedition cool.
But my only two negative thoughts is, I dont know they would be particularly useful when driving through scrub or bush tracks, many a time I have clobbered my antenna mount on my Perentie. I'd be worried I would rip them off when off road.
The other thing, when parked in the local carpark, some dickhead walks past and walks into it and suddenly its my fault.
LOL there's only one way to avoid the carpark dickhead and that is by not parking in it! I'm surprised how solid they are, and with jerrycan off not too bad. I've ordered a second red draper can from moto fc and will look to get a second mount.

Many years ago, the young brother of a mate of mine sustained a life-changing head injury from the open quarter-vent window of a passing HQ Holden. Doesn't take much protrusion. Personally I think those side-mount jerry can holders are an unreasonable risk to others, except in the bush- where they're likely to be a pain in the neck.
But if glaziers can have vans with racks of glass hanging off the side, I guess perhaps these things are legal too.

Ha! You got me there, quite right! It was the mate's dad who had the HQ, the bloke who hit his little brother was driving an HT iirc. About 12 years old, he was standing on the kerb looking at a dead cat in the gutter. He was never quite right afterwards, showed the traits of a subtle ABI.Quote:

Yes no quarter vents in the HQ,but it did have nice large fresh air intake vents that blew air over the drivers feet.Maybe another vent for the front seated passengers feet as well,but i can't remember.A pity vehicles these days dont have that sort of vehilation.Quote:

Back to the OP,if the jerry can protrudes past the wheel arch flares,i doubt it would be legal around here.
I have seen Coppers more than once put a straight edge on a tyre,and if it protrudes past the wheel arch flare,you are done.
And by the way i love the big tank in the ride we have now,the jerry cans,whch are generally a PITA,are sitting around collecting dust.
The jerry cans are definitely a cool look but I doubt they would pass muster here. There seems to be some subjectivity in the design rules regarding what might pose a risk to other road users- unlike the tyre rule which is that they must not protrude past the width of the body or something to that effect, wheel arch flares seem to be accepted as part of the body.
I understand that they used to get exemptions to do it. Now, not sure what's required.Quote:
