i ran BFGs KM2 then KM3 for years. during covid, i couldn't get BFGs so went with Maxxis RAZRs MTs. done a few outback trips since fitting incl a Simpson crossing. They are wearing well. Don't bag as much as the KM3s when aired down. And are fine on the road. I trust the KM3s moreso in the rain for braking and steering. Not sure if they come in 255/85.
I'm a fan of bombproof muds for touring. Traction and reliability.
I've been running the Goodyear MTR for a long time for this reason and it has a kevlar carcass to help prevent punctures.
I've also bought BFGoodrich KM3's and although I'm not a fan of non-silica rubber, and the resulting lack of traction/life of this rubber, the BFG MT does roll really smoothly and it gives a great ride in comparison to the GY MTR/kevlar. The KM3 was designed with a "no walk out" policy and reportedly has a 15mm thick sidewall to make sure you don't get punctures.
For me, I'd be waiting a bit more and putting the KM3's on again for their relability.
I am running Yokohama geolander at4 go18, they are an LT AT, I have them in the standard size.
I rate them, and paid $353 per tyre, fitted and balanced a couple of months ago in Brisbane.
I notice they have buy three get one free at the moment (for the month of Dec, so I missed out), so if you were looking to swap brand/tyre size/type, now might be a cost effective time to do it.
they also have a geolander x-at go16, which appears to be their mud terrain style tyre (in standard size only though, but still buy 3 get one free).
I've been using that exact tyre for probably 15 years now (they did update them a few years back). They are a good tyre. Tough, they don't chip much and seem pretty grippy. They don't seem prone to punctures in desert work. I've should confess I don't drive enough - I usually throw them out before they wear out because they are 6 or more years old.
The bFG KO3 we have on the camper.. the tread pattern looks a lot more agressive than the Yokohama even though they are both ATs. I wonder how noisy they are which is always a sensitive issue in a defender.
I've ordered a couple of Geolander MTs - thanks all
I think they come with a 2 year road hazard warranty. You can read about it below.. it's a yokohama warranty not a dealer warranty although not all dealers seem to offer it.
Actually ...
