Defender tyres - 255/85R16 BFG MT KM2 replacements?

Having had to change tyres due to a flat I have noticed that two of my tyres are getting pretty low on tread.

My existing tyres are 255/85R16 BFG MT KM2's.

I am staying with 255/85R16 size and would prefer to stay with mud terrain tyres.

I intend to replace only two tyres.

Q1. If I do that should I put the new ones on front axle or rear axle or it doesn't matter?

Q2. I see than the KM3s are crazy expensive. Are there other MT tyres out there that would be suitable replacement for my current BFG's?

Q3. Can anyone recommend a good 4wd tyre place in the north Brisbane area that can do an alignment (on a 1995 Defender 130) and fitting etc, and hopefully has good prices?

    Thank you for your help.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Hi Vlad, I run the same tyres, been doing so for many years now. I went through the difficult decision making earlier this year as I needed to replace 4 tyres and they have become horrendously expensive. In the end I went with the BFGs again as I have had such incredible durability out of them and I was not confident I would get the same out of a cheaper tyre. We did an outback trip on the new tyres with some of the most remote and arduous driving we have ever done and I was very happy I had gone with the BFGs, I had to do 2 repairs due to packing crud into the beads when running low pressures but no other tyre issues, how they hold up just amazes me.
I asked a similar question on here before I bought, didn't really get much so I went with what I knew.

The 130 is significantly heavier on the rear so particularly if carrying heavy loads, the wear is noticably greater on the rear tyres, I'd put the new ones on the rear. I rotate mine frequently because of this.

Opinions on Yokohama Geolander MT G003?

They are substantially cheaper and one tyre place recommended as alternative.

I have not had the MT. But I've been running geolander LT AT's for many years now. They never wear out they just get old and I throw them.

The AT's have a road hazard warranty to for the first two years which might be of value.

I'm running Toyo Open County MT in a 119 load rating, most 255/85R16 are a 123 I believe.

They were considerably cheaper than BFGs five years ago.

They're wearing faster than the BFGs that I had before, I'd guess I'll see 60-70K Km if they don't die of old age first.

I have no complaints about them, and would fit them again.

Thanks the prices I have from one tyre place BFG $565 each! vs Geolanders $372 each (incl fitting and balancing)
The best price I've seen the BFGs was $535 each (bare tyre)

As I am only getting two tyres I kind of need to stick to MTs.

If you were replacing all four i would try the KO3.

We have had them on our work utes for quite a while now,the utes run almost on GVM all day.
No other tyre has lasted as well,we have tried quite a few other brands.

I have a set of worn out KO2 on the LC,will go the KO3 soon. The KO2s have done almost 90,000Km.

Do you mean the KM3? BFGs? Or are you talking about a different brand?

KO3 is the BF Goodrich all terrain.
It's not available in 255/85R16 so not really relevant to the thread.

KM3 is the BF Goodrich mud terrain.

    Yowsers! to the price.

I we just got a new camper and it has BFG AT k03 on it. They look pretty agressive to me. Understand you have to match though.
