130 on its way back to Oz

    Hi

I bought my 130 in the UK during April last year, it has just been shipped back to the UK from Queensland (was 337 HQD). The main attraction was that it was already fitted with a compliance plate, which ment we could import it back to Austrailia on a tourist visa. From that point onwards what had been a dream started to become a reality.

Marion and I had aways said that as soon as the kids were old enough to look after themselves we would go travelling. So with kids aged 21 and 19, jobs we hated, it was time to start the planning!!

As bought the 130 has a steel frame welded to a steel trayback with a wood and plastic camper built onto the frame. We thought this would be fine for occasional/weekend use but didn't offer enough secure storage for a 12 month trip. We fitted an ex-utilities company Quadtech box instead and started kitting it out.

The photos show the vehicle before and after.

At the moment the 130 is on a container ship somewhere in the Indian Ocean, and due to arrive in Sydney at the end of the month. We arrive in Sydney on 27th May so we can sort out any problems with the importation. Once it is on the road we plan to head north for the dry season, but our plans are very vague and we will take advice from locals rather then visit the more obvious places.

    All the best

    Steve & Marion

    .

Lot of math in converting km's to miles and liters into gallons... I spent 8 years in the UK and kept converting the trip computer's MPG readouts back to km/l and l/100km...

Very tidy 110, and hope to see you on a drive down in Perth soon!

    28mpg (UK gallons) = 10l/100km (close enough)

so divide 28/(mpg) then multiply by 10

    so 25mpg = 11.2l/100

    1 UK gallon = 4.55L

    1 mile = 1.6 km

28mpg = 9.85km/L give or take a couple of decimal points.

    FWIW

    1. MPG = (Kms/lts)x2.82

    2. Converting MPG to fuel required to cover distance in Kms: (Dist in Kms/MPG)x2.82 = Fuel Qty in litres

    EG 1. 558.8kms 65.61lts = 558.8/65.6 = 8.52kms/lt x 2.82 = 24.3MPG

    EG 2. Dist 1547kms 21.5MPG = 1547/21.5 = 71.95 X 2.82 = 202.9Lts of fuel required

Why are we still trying to work out fuel consumption in MPG? Australia has only been dealing with metric units for 42 years now.
It's pretty simple to work out your fuel consumption based on the amount of kilometers on your odometer against how many litres of fuel in your tank- it's not rocket surgery.
"did 575km and used 86.82 litres" - i reckon you used about 15.1L/100km - too easy!
We all know that 9L/100km is pretty reasonable fuel consumption for a diesel and that a petrol V8 will return about 15-17L/100km on the highway if it's running right, about time we moved on from the imperial measurements, don't you think?

    I...
Because my Landy is 42 years old???. It has a 10 gallon tank and manages 70mph. I think it does 7mpg. LOL
