Thanks
The aerial is 2db which I picked up from TJM on special $5. I also have a metal whip 6db. I use both to connect to a 5watt Icom handheld radio as I didn't want a fixed radio in the car.
The short aerial I use mostly when I travel with others and avoid getting clipped by branches. The 6db I use for longer drives when on my own, get better coverage.
I don't think I need the thick whips, what I have serves me fine.
The ideal spot for any aerial is in the middle of roof not on the bull bar, so, the roof rack is as close to optimum spot.
At least that's what I learned in my electronics engineering course.
Great pic thanks PD!
