Actually tried ours today for the first time since modification and the remote now works from at least 5 metres which is a vast improvement from before.
Anyone having difficulty, I would suggest you take it up with your dealer, as it can be rectified.
I wonder - the range on our previous 02MY Defender key-fob was much better than the new one. Maybe the thicker steel doors are to blame? It has to be something obstructing the signal or bad positioning of the receiver in the dash since the electronics are probably exactly the same.
Yes, this was incredibly annoying.
On two occasions it worked from almost 10 meters away. 10 whole meters-I was so impressed. then it went back to standing right next to it.

I complained about this very issue 10 years ago when I got my D1. The dealer told me it was a design feature to stop people scamming the digital lock/unlock code from a distance.
As he told it, there is some machine which can read the code broadcast when you lock your car, and they can play it back when you have gone shopping to open the vehicle. Dunno if that is true or just a myth.
And also - my '07 110 can't be opened from further than about 2 or 3 metres away.
It's true that devices like this exist but the service person was pulling crap using that as a the reason it was made like that.
What about the peugoets I got when the fender was in for servicing that could be opened with the remote from no less then 50 meters maybe further and all the other cars with these systems. the FL2 one was pretty impressive I could even turn the head lights on and off from 50+ meters away, lol.

i dont have to much of a prob with my disco.....not the greatest distance but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the defender i can still be in the house and unlock the disco:DQuote:

Hi Henno - they will fix it - don't stress :D That's the good thing about having a warranty.
Just as a thought, are there any big radio transmitters where you are trying to lock/unlock the car? These can mess up the signal and make it not work. There are a couple of streets in Adelaide where I just cannot use the remote at all, due to the Police radio transmitters being stronger than the handset.
Does it not work all over the place, or just in specific places?
