2008 Defender 110 (code named Puma) cargo barrier options

I know this is slightly off topic :o:D but the TD5 was also known as the "Storm" I think we should drop the td5 and call them Storm from now on :D:D:D:wasntme:

And about the cargo barrier... the main problem seems to be that the rear seats sit further back and are more reclined on the "Puma" than the "Storm". I don't see why you couldn't fit one from a "Storm" to a "Puma" if you were prepared for it to sit back slightly and maybe have a little wasted space behind the back seats low down.

In other news how does one restrain a child in a "Puma"? Have they done child restraints for them yet?

i find it amusing that people are laughing at puma owners calling the car PUMA as thats what they all call them in the uk to.

but hey if you wish to call your car "storm" because you feel left out thats fine by me ;) :p

No that's not it at all, the rear seat has a large block in the floor that it locks into. Rather than recess it (sensible and wouldn't protude into load space) they just bolted it on to the floor pan (cost effective solution no doubt) and so there's this 2" bump across the centre 50% of the load area at the back of the rear seats... just where the barrier would normally sit:mad:

Puma is built to conform with the ISOfix system but of course you can't buy ISOfix child seats in Australia as they aren't approved I believe. But it does have a centre inertia reel belt in the middle rear seat unlike the Land Cruiser 70 Workmate which has a simple lap belt - now how did Toyota get away with that one:confused:

Using ISOFIX is illegal in Australia. I have it in our other car and it's a much better restraint system, but you can't use it in Aus. Given that it's just an engineering thing I'm sure someone will engineer child restraint soon. But you would want to remember consider that if you also had a barrier. We were lucky with out setup. We had crow bar, and the people installing the barrier only "just" managed to fit it in between.

Yes!

JohnR has them in his - done locally in Brisbane for not a lot of money. The key is the fact that the new Defender rear seat has the centre seat belt attached to the seatback thereby making it "loadbearing" in a crash. The child restraint anchors are just rated bolts/eyelets in the floor of the cargo area and the capsule/child seat straps just go over the seat back and attach down to them. It's very simple - no crab bars or stuff like that.

Back to the original topic - yes there was one - of the cargo barrier.

Milford may do one in the future if there is sufficient interest, but it is very doubtful.

Tradesman Vehicle Accessories in Melbourne have made them for the new Defender and you can order through Opposite Lock stores, sounds like its made on request job though.

The OEM LR Dog Guard (P/N LR006447) isn't an ADR approved accessory and so isn't imported.

I also need to install child restraint anchors in the Puma. Can you please let me know the details of the installer in Brisbane?
