    TD5 130 A/C fan switch

The A/C fan switch does not work anymore. Pulled all the fuses out and none were blown. There is power at fuse 28 & 30. A/C compressor cuts in & out. Fan switch seems to be the problem it was working fine the other day without the A/C on. what is the easiest way to pull the switch out?????

    Help plse

There's not another fuse for the A/C's fan is there? I'm not familiar with the Td5 Defender's A/C but I know the one they added to the Tdi's can have the fuses under the seat and not in the usual fuse box.

I think from memory that the switch panel just pulls out gently from the front of the dash A/C unit. You may want to remove the speaker from that side first to allow you to press in the tabs from the back. I did check mine before and I can't remember doing anything hard or special to get to it.
Check that the switch doesn't work in all three positions. If it still works in position 3 but not in either of the other posistions it may well be a broken coil in the resistor pack. This is mounted in the fan housing and the A/C dash unit has to be removed to replace it. Not difficult but expensive as you need to empty/recharge the gas and this requires a new drier also. The resistor pack is about $120 genuine but can be repaired by removing the old coils and soldering on replacements.
If the fan doesn't work in any position I'd be checking that the fan is recieving voltage. Could be a stuffed fan. Again A/C dash unit has to come out!
There is also a relay (relay-blower [R176]) that makes the blower circuit and this is fed from fuse 15 (5 amp). This relay is fired from the ecu via the pressure sensor so if no gas, no fan. Shorting the relay base pins 1 & 4 (relay pins 30 & 87) should make the fan circuit. Unfortunately this relay is inside the dash A/C unit, so to check it means taking it out also!!! Having said that, you may be able to pull the unit away from the bulkhead to get at this without disconnecting. Haven't tried this though.
