My dad bought a TDI new in 93. It took till three years ago to pries it away from him. It has about 240 000 km's. Disc rear & Air con.
Love it
The "adjustment" to the injection pump.
Is it worth doing?
The drive train handles the extra power OK?
Does it change the fuel econ much?
Not worth doing at all, and at that km's, I suggest I'd take it off your hands before it becomes a liability:p:p:p:pQuote:

The adjustments are well worth it, 1.6mm pump plunger lift, a wastegate adjustment (as these only run 10psi from the factory, and can easily handle 14psi, ) and pump tweaks will make it into a different vehicle. Tappet adjustments are critical for good performance, 200Tdi's can be done at 20,000km intervals.
I love these engines, they are a true workhorse, bit like a small 4BD1 really...
BTW, I love the Tablelands, does it need a LR specialist up there?

Closest LR place is in Cairns. Takes me hour n quarter to get there.
There are a few LR here. Would you believe a 200 TDI lives across the road.
All the people I have spoken to aren't real happy with the follow up service in Cairns. One person I know will travel to Townsville for work on their vehicle to be done. Personally my LR wont ever go there.

It's just that the 200Tdi is based almost squarely on the series 2.25 and 2.5 diesels, that they are near on bulletproof.
Also, the 200 dosen't have anywhere near the problems with vac pump oil leaks, timing belt breakages, P gasket leaks, rear main seal leaks etc as the 300 does.
But, got to love ALL LR products equally and without bias, or they may get upset.:):D:p

I kept telling Bushie about the crack but he reckons it has been there the life of the chassis and has not caused too many problems so far

Anyway there is a bit of dirt road that everyone raves about not too far away so it wont be a wasted trip. The tar is creeping ever northward
The syncro on second gear is a bit sad on mine. It has a "chat" to me on change down if I dont blip the throttle.
