At one time South Africa required South African assemblers to fit engines made in South Africa. Don't know if this is still the case. You saw things like Mercedes-Benz trucks with a South African made Perkins engine, and Chev. badged Holdens with a South African Chev. 6.

What about a Caterpillar Truck Engine? I have seen some Toyota Landcruiser troopies with the Cat badging. The Troopies can take rather large diesel engines.

As with most of those Toyota tossers it is usually only the sticker attached to the vehicle - no caterpillar motor at all:eek:

I don't think Caterpillar make anything small or light enough to be used in a Land Rover.

Spot on :D

In Argentina some people fit john Deere engines on the Ford F250 and they are going as good as the ones with the 6 cyl Perkins.

To me the logical convertion here in the LR is using the Isuzu turbo engine.
