A good clean & a smear of silastic or copper grease on the back of the pad should sort it out.
A chamfer on the pad too might help but it shouldn't need it (it might already have one anyway).

Please could some one advise me on curing the squeal from hell comming off the rear breaks of my 130. Replaced ferodo pads with Delphi because they were shreeking now these seem to be as bad or worse. did the replacement 3500kms ago and they were quiet for a while. Please help.
another question is what oil to use in the transfer box, on a previous thread penrite sin gear 75 was recomended, what is the castrol equivalent?

thanks, did do the copper grease thing already no luck, but the Delphi Pads are not champhered like the ferodo ones could be the plan.

The Penrite 75 that is often recommended here is for the R380 gearbox.
For the transfer case you need about EP 80-90, the same as goes in the diffs.

is this the correct oil to use though? I replaced the gear box oil with syntrans and am quite amazed by the improvement.
Please advise- going into a '96 130 with 210000 on the clock.

Any good 75W/80W-90 or SAE 90 is OK in the transfer case, so either of the two Castrol oils listed will work well.
Just use the one you can get more easily/best deal on.
And as for the squealing brakes, silicone or anti-squeal on the back of the pads only lasts a short space of time IME.
Doing the amount of dirt roads I do, it just gets plain annoying
I just live with it these days.
It would appear this is only a problem with aftermarket pads. I only use genuine as they don't seem to be all that dearer and I have never had a issue. Also I have never used any anti-squeal compound on the back of the pads, even though it's recommended.

In my previous Deefers, 98 110 TDi wagon + 02 110 TD5 xtreme wagon, both vehicles chewed out the rear pads to metal under 7000k's, and on 11:30Saturday morning (Nowra shuts down at noon) !! And consumables are not under waranty....Nowra L/R also said it was my fault as I drive in too much sand - cheeky W*&%er.
Both times I fitted aftermarket pads and were still going strong 80000km later.
From time to time they squealed, so I would gently roughen the surface and ensure there was a chamfer. Never used coppaslip or stuff like that, even though it was popular in pommyland on series drum set ups.
