    K&N Filters

wondering if there is a replacement part and number to suit the TDI ?

I contacted an agent and they don't have a listing .

There is a Coopers paper filter with ref number AEM2566
in there at the moment .

    K&N Filters...

great for air flow, bad at filtration...

I've seen many many surveys done and have done a "light" test on them.

IMHO best of both worlds is by the old school Oil bath filters.

Hey you people, K&N do not gather dust on the shelves here!! I guess they dust them off

If I had a V8 running on unleaded then OK.

I have a K&N in my 300TDi. I will check and see if there is a part number on it.

After having my truck for just over 2 months now (it's a 1998 model) I deceided to remove the air filter and check it out.

Will I was astonished at the state of it. The previous owner must not have cleaned for a long time. I am amazed that any air flowed through at all.

Any ideas on the best way to clean it? Just blow it out with the compressor?

It was chocked full of insects, dust and grim, I gave it a good shake, but there is still heaps in there.

    Cheers

IIRC K&N recommend tapping it out (you've already done that) and washing (with their cleaning fluid) and re-oiling (again, with their oil)
I'm guessing some dishwashing powder diluted into a bucket of warm water would work well to wash it out.

IMO a paper filter is better

If anyone really, really wants a 300Tdi Defender K&N I have one with only 20,000km worth of air through it. It was freshly cleaned and re-oiled by isuzurover just before the tests Pedro linked to above.

Actually I think one of my (semi) trained lab monkeys washed the oil off after the tests. So from memory it is squeaky clean.

ok under everyones input I went to Engine Protection Equipment in Myaree today ,

they sell everything from K&N to Donaldson ...

    Their input was ....
    Donaldson P182052 air filters @ $25 each
    Donaldson pre-air cleaner / cyclone $80

so they had nothing good to say about the K&N EITHER and they sell them

so thankyou to all for your input , from your informed decisions I was able to do a little research and am happy I did so
