    130 Diffs

Theres always lots of talk on here about the quality of a 130 diff, can someone explain what the difference are and why some 130's have different ones????

    Only the rears are different

Pre 2002 are Salisbury. (Massively strong, and just massive!)

Post 2002 are a Rover type 4 Pin (like a P38 - not so strong)

The Salisbury in the 130 has thicker axle tubes. Thats it.... so it can handle more of a load over a 110 Salisbury..

bull. a 110 salisbury is the same as a 130. The 130s only had double rear springs (a small one inside a normal one).

They are quoted as better diffs when compared to a 90s 24 spline disco/rangie classic, as they are a rear salisbury, and have vented front callipers with bigger pistons. There are no other differences.

Before you shoot off and make a judgement you have no idea on... do your research.

There is is reason why Maxi engineering prefered 130 housings over 110 and why so many LR mechanics use 130 housings in modded cars.....
    They are stronger.....

Part number for a 110 rear diff housing FTC3721
Part number for 130 Diff housing FTC3722

Listed in the LR parts manual...

    FACT. Not BULL

And what does a Vented front disc have to do with it??? you said caliper with bigger pistons... the Caliper is not VENTED
All 110/130 from 93 LA Vin onwards have vented front disc...

Thanks for that Carkie, I wasn't aware that the numbers were different!

Good thing mine came from a 130 then

Interesting Clarkie, something I wasn't aware of at all.
    there's a whole bunch of part #'s here http://www.beamends-lrspares.co.uk/B...130/index.html
and if someone has the time, can they run a vernier over the axle tube of a 110 ? and I'll measure a 130.

Pity they didn't make them D60 sized or braced a little as they still let go in Telstra applications in the Territory, supposedly pulling axle tubes out of the centre.
130man has an ex-Telstra '01 130 with a Wolf rear end, the bracing and gusseting on it is bloody amazing and it's OE.

I've got one of those 130's with (supposedly) the Wolf diffs. But I can't really see the difference from the std diffs. The gussetting work under the axle is very impressive though.

What improvements were there with the Wolf version compared to the std version?

I've also been corresponding with Barry from HiTough (he writes real hand written letters to you when you make an enquiry - he doesn't like emails!) about replacement shafts. Do you know if Telstra fitted uprated shafts, or if the wolf diff 'package' came with better shafts?

I have a bit of an idea, as i have wrecked both 130s and 110 and there was no difference.

The calliper is a vented calliper, which is wider to suit the vented disc.

And here I was thinking you were talking about a vented vernier caliper.
