Gentlemen, saddened as I am at the thought of so many vehicles being buried forever, they do make a fitting sarcophagus. I'm sure the Pharaoh's of Egypt or the Vikings of old would rather be interred in a Land Rover than a cramped mummy coffin or burnt on a long boat.
Thank you too for your kind invitations to visit and see the vehicles I'll never own.
Here's my final plan (for today).
Keep the dusty green Corrolla forever - we all need a reliable car to pick up parts in when the Land Rover fails to proceed. The Corrolla isn't worth selling as it's been in the family since new and has a perfect service history (Thanks Dave & Joe at Malcolm Motors Newtown). I'd happily be buried in a Corrolla so my kids can get the Land Rovers...
I finish my 4 year BDiv in November and start a job as an assistant minister in Sydney's North West in 2010. Use the car allowance to finance (minister's don't earn much) a '04 TD5 Discovery - auto. This will adequately do as a family car for a few years. My wife (whose never driven a manual) was quite taken by the Disco on a recent ride in one.
Then, when we can afford it, buy at TD5 Defender. Paint it olive green with black rims. Kit it and the Disco up with the same wheels & tires. Now we have two TD5's - auto for her, manual for me, and 10 seats across both cars for our hoped for family of 8 - 2 adults, 6 kids (one gone before us (joined the forum to assuage the grief), one keeping us up at night now, and another due March 2010 - so 4 more to go), this will give us plenty of load space.
Now we can do family trips around Australia taking both cars. We'll take up those offers of BBQ's, and enjoy seeing other people's rigs.
Eventually I'll create a position as Anglican Chaplain to the 4wd clubs of Australia so I can spend my time visiting club meets.
As you all start to die off, I'll happily come and conduct your funerals (no fee), and make sure you are interred in your Land Rover's as you wish.
Plan B is to win some money and buy a Puma.
Your thoughts?

ps. haven't been on Ebay for a while (KitBag instead), but buying history has nothing poisonous. Just Opinel knife, Maglite etc. The usual stuff.

As an Anglican I think I get about $7K/year car allowance to spend on fuel/insurance/repayments etc. Could prob afford a $18K car over 3 years.
I'll definitely look to start a 4wd club. (Actually, while looking for a job I had a chat with the guy at Richmond Anglican (Ford Maverick owner), they have a club and have done trips to the cape, and the centre. There's a church club in Dundas also).
