suspension questions 130

I bought my 130 with a 2" lifted EFS suspension kit. It's a load of crap.

I currently have one rear spring 25mm shorter then the other. I have made a spacer to keep the back end level. When I have some spare cash in the next few months I plan on getting Dobinsons coils (2" longer than standard) with bilstein shocks - toyoto 80 series in the front and nissan GQ in the back. These shocks give longer travel.

I don't carry that much gear in the back of my 130 - just camping gear so I will see how I go without airbags.

sounds like new front springs air bags and bilstein shocks then ?

I just did almost exactly as Jock The Rock did on my 130. Boss adjustable shocks, 2"lift dobinsons springs. Slightly harder in front for future winch and slightly stiffer outer spring on rear. Inner spring removed and replaced with polyair bags. Haven't loaded it up yet as I had some engine issues just afterwards and haven't yet put the camper back on it. However the ride and handling was dramatically improved unloaded. My only issue with the Boss adjustable shocks is you lose about 30mm up travel due to the adjuster mechanism. I have to say I never got anywhere near full compression while I was testing it.

Just out of interest mate, what setting do you run your shocks on for normal day to day driving?

I have my fronts on about 7-8 and the rears on about 5-6

I found with them on the hardest setting, the Landy handled really well on corners, but was a bit to jolty over bumps

Hi Jock,

I have them all set on about 5-6 whilst unloaded and I suspect I'd need to crank the rear up to about 8 or 9 (perhaps even up to Max for onroad highway stuff) once I have the full camping set up on board. I've yet to load up the back as I've had engine issues since doing it and haven't been able to go camping as yet.

I found 5-6 to be firm enough to resist excessive body roll yet soft enough to absorb most bumps and jolts easily. It even handles nicely off road on the same settings. As I upgraded the spring rate a little it's quite firm on road and when unloaded handles like a go-kart.

Why Boss shocks i haven't ever heard of them where did you get them from and what was the money ??
same deal with dobinson springs never heard of them !!!

Dobinsons = springs - been around for years
Boss Shocks = Big bore adjustable shocks check out suspension stuff website

Hi Guys, I have Bilstein in my 130 and although they handle beautifully, they seem to a little short limiting my down travel. Does any one know if they can be modifyed to have a longer stroke??

For the front, buy a set of Bilsteins to suit a Toyota 80 series. They are pin to pin and they have a longer extended length. Just watch the bump clearence - you may need to extend your bump stops a little.

The rear you can use Bilsteins to suit a nissan GQ, but you will need a pin to eye converter for the bottom mount. Once again watch the compressed length.

I had this set up on mY Range Rover and it flexed very well.

Call Shane at Suspension stuff. He will be able to give you the right length shock.
