Yes I should probably think more about it, I prefer the mantec for that reason that it opens with the door and they seem of a better quality that the benach wheel carriers.
I know my wife would probably get anoyed at opening a carrier then a door........
First off the Kaymar is about $1000 here and it's made here in Australia:eek:
Secondly, having had a Kaymar on a D1, I can tell you it gets very annoying having to open the wheel carrier then the door. Especially when there is monsoonal rain falling:(
I'd love to hear from someone who has the German wheel carrier fitted. The Bearmach, Mantec etc are all very similar.

The other thing to look out for is whether or not you can open the door with the key in it. With the graham cooper ones if you open the door with the key in the lock it will smash the key on the spare.. which is a pretty annoying thing to happen as part of it will break off in the lock!
Unfortunately the one on my county has no brand that I can see but it is a professional job, and I have seen them around.
I finally finished my own wheel carrier which has the following features.........opens with the door, locks in the open position and doesn't need any holes drilled to install it. IMHO some of the commercially made carriers look a bit 'light duty'. Maybe they're not made with Aussie Outback corrugated roads in mind.

if you are shipping stuff from SG to Darwin, try Perkins as they run a vessel from SG to Darwin a couple of times a week basically empty and would do the freight as a type of back loading I'd say...
