Workshop manual says this is normal as the valve needs to rid itself of potential deposits. Mine is the same and I was concerned when I first heard it as I can't recall hearing it before, but then it was late at night, with windows down and no ambient noise. Will bring it up at my next visit to Trivett Motors in Parramatta who are apparently going to install my rear window wiper and washer as Sollihull forgot to install it.
My parents 2010 does the same thing, not always, more often after short trips. Rarely after longer trips, just consider it normal.

Hi Derek
My Puma started making exactly the same noise just before 40,000km last November so I drew attention to it at the 40,00km service in November.
The service records states "egr valve noisy" but when I picked the car up they said that a new egr valve needed to be ordered and that they would ring me in a couple of weeks when it came in. I drove to Sydney and back the next month and when I contacted the dealer in January to find out out why it was taking so long to get the part, I was told that there had been a "revision" of the part which had caused a delay in getting it. I booked it in for replacement as soon as the part arrived on the 25th January, but when I picked up the car at the end of the day I was told that the egr valve "was within parameters" and did not need replacing. They apologised for stuffing me around and said that many Pumas had had the valve replaced but when the faulty ones were disassembled they were apparently found not to be faulty. Consequently dealers were given a new set of rules on replacing them since November. After my trip to Sydney it had quietened down a lot and no longer sounded like yours does, so at the time it sounded reasonable. However it is now back to being as noisy as yours is and last month at 50,000km when it was back in the dealers again for a service and some warranty fixes, it is apparently still "within parameters".
Never made a sound for over 35,000km... but I am told it is a normal part of the valve's self cleaning process.
It is hard enough as it is convincing anyone that the Puma is actually a current model vehicle and now, after pulling up, switching off and getting strange looks as this death rattle comes out of the engine bay I wouldn't even bother telling family members that the car is less than 2 years old!!
The car works fine but I'd call it "somewhat embarassing" rather than "annoying".
Cheers
Mark
Thanks for this thread. Just picked my new toy up on Fri and that noise has been driving me nuts.
Yep, ours does the same. I just figured it was a Puma thing. As mentioned previously, the noise is more apparent when the engine turned off when still cold.

Hi Guys - Im a long time reader here but this is the first post. So - g'day.
Has there been any further development or thoghts on this noise. Our 130 started making this noise suddenly at 40,000km. Prior to that it was quiet and I certainly couldnt hear it.
Seems odd that a noise that 'suddenly' appears is OK.
Regards,
SteveL
