Tata To Supply 80 Electric Buses To West Bengal Transport Corporation - NDTV CarAndBike
Imagine one of those motors in a Defender
Australia really needs to wake up & get into EV's . India and China are lightyears ahead of us.
Im not just talking about these busses, India already has cheap EV's almost the same price as ICE cars , Sure they are not Tesla powerhouses, but no one really needs a Tesla powerhouse to go A to B .
When I said Australia needs to pull their socks up. The Govt here is doing NOTHING. Pretty soon the worlds manufacturers will only be making EV's and here we will be waiting for ICE cars to arrive on the next boat.

I guess it's easy to make cheap EVs for the masses, when your country has no real hindrances like out ADRs seem to be.
It seems that for a vehicle to be road legal in India, it needs to be a vehicle of some sort. wheel count don't matter, condition doesn't matter .. basically nothing really matters, as long as it looks a bit like a vehicle!

So what ? India have always made things that don't comply with ADR's . They can make Electric Tuk Tuks for the same price as equivalent ICE Tuk Tuks . Its all relative . The ADR's just add a costs to both types that India don't need to be burdened with.
Fact is ADR's make EV's easier to comply because there is no emissions to deal with.
India tries lots of things.
I saw several of the Tata compressed air cars laid up on the side of the road but none actually on the road.
At The Taj Mahal all the tuktuks are electric, I guess to slow down soot on the Taj, although the air is so thick it hardly makes a difference.
In Delhi, which AFAIK is the most polluted city in the World there are lots of cyclos or human driven transport, although one must wonder about their CO2 and methane output, whew those curries.
In the country just outside Jaipur, I stayed in a village where the power went off at 8PM, and then the hotel started up a diesel generator.
There are millions of very old trucks in India, which spew out pollution and soot on a scale unheard of in the West, and the expressways have line ups kilometers long at the toll booths, despite having the most hilarious etoll system in the world where a bloke runs out of the booth and jumps up to try to reach the sensor on the truck or bus windscreen with his reader.
Horses for Courses.
