Yes.. I am too. I'm sure China is watching the outflows of us munitions in this, hoping for a weakened US. Anyway let's not go there in here.

I remain convinced that anything we can do to be less dependent on foreign oil is a desireable thing. Because frankly our society would stop if the flows stop.

EDIT: We use oil not just for land transport - but farming, power generation, aviation, etc etc. All things that can't be easily done any other way. And much of our land transport is just driving around cities. A job that can easly be done with electrification.

EDIT2: Talked to a guy yesterday. Lives on the sunny coast. Bought a dual cab just in case he gets down on the beach. Hasn't yet.. maybe one day. Standard dual cab/4x4 rationalle. His car was pristine.. like the majority of DC in Brisbane.

I reckon if this drags on for much more than a week it's could get ugly. Unlike the previous wars in the region this one could see major oil exporters blocked from exporting. Let's hope they don't start whacking oil infrastructure which could result in long term supply interruptions.

Imagine if all the families that could had swapped one of their SUV's/DC Utes for an EV... Not only would those families be able to weather this better, but we would have more ability to reserve fuel for uses that are not suited electification.

I'm no expert in this stuff. To state the obvious.

But I understand that much of the oil from that region goes to asia. I imagine there is a bit of lag in the system with all the transport and refining. Hopefully we can absorb the interruption and it doesn't come to rationing. And the oil price doesn't go too high... Be interesting in the next week.

This is just nuts. Who cares about family getting around. All of food production will stop, transport will cease, plastics would stop being made, shipping would stop, trucking would stop ... trains would stop. You wouldn't have food to eat, the septic system probably relies on diesel pumps ... the idea personal transport is what matters is crazy. How are you going to dig up the coal to charge the electric throw-aways without diesel?

That's exactly why I was suggesting more EV's are good. It saves more diesel for the important things that can't easily be electrified. Instead, Diesel is being used to drive the kids to school because the owner would like to think that if they did want to go onto the beach, they could. Not that they ever have... but they look like they could at any minute.

Not really I imagine. As soon as there is fuel shortages, poeple stop driving.. Look at covid fuel usage. I did just try to google what percentage of fuel use is private transport, but all you get up is looney lefty "environmal" type websites rather than any sort of real data. This isn't something the published, its not something we want the general public to know, as it would graphically demonstrate how ridiculous some of the greeny crap that is being forced on us is.

There is plenty of evidence that if fuel prices go up - people drive less. I imagine they drive a lot less when there is fuel rationing.

Except for the people that bought a EV instead of a dual cab. They can continue as per usual. And the fuel that they don't use can help soften the blow.

I'm unclear how someoenes ideology can stop them seeing that very very obvious point. But that's ok. Takes all sorts.

Its nothing to do with idealogy, imagine telling people what htey need to do to save some money on petrol is spend tens of thousand of dollars on a new electric throw-away that has a very limited lifespan.

No matter which way you look at it, your talking travel only for the wealthy as soon as electric throw-aways are mentioned.
