The type of hybrid is important. Toyota is selling "mild hybrids" which just means the ancilliaries are all driven electrically.

A true hybrid should have an electric motor in the drivetrain so should have good acceleration from both motors. I think that's called a serial hybrid.

There are a lot of different types of hybrids...
