All of them are well below the tow capacity of a Model Y.
See, just stupidity. Everyone that see my 4wd will never see it towing most likely. That means I don't need one. What your saying is bluntly... utter stupidity. Do you know how many people hire trailers .... how many people store there big things somewhere else. Guess how many caravans and trailers are stored at my place that I don't own .....

People that think they can tell other people what they can do, and what they need just amaze me. Are there lives really that tiny and pathetic

I think those big american utes are brilliant. Big, capable, comfortable ... reliable. perfect for the insanely large and heavy caravans that get built in australia. I see them towing caravans all the time. "But but, I know soemoen somewhere that has one and doesn't tow". You know what?? I couldn't care less, what business of yours is that?

I've lived here for a long time. I know most of them. They don't have anywhere to hide big boats or vans etc. They are just buying a DC or SUV4x4 because it's aspirational, or cool or whatever. Yes some of them do get worked, but I'm confident it's in the minority. At least here in the city.

I ride a pushbike to work and get the chance to have a pretty good look along the way. I'd be guessing that over half of them don't even have a cover on the back. Big empty trays on shiny cars that have never been worked.

Have a look at this list. If you really think all those people couldn't maybe get buy with something else.. I'm calling bull too.

    Australians highest selling cars 2024.

    2. Toyota RAV4 medium SUV – 58,718 (+98.2%)
    3. Toyota HiLux ute – 53,499 (-12.5%)
    4. Isuzu D-Max ute – 30,194 (-3.2%)
    5. Mitsubishi Outlander medium SUV – 27,613 (+13.8%)
    6. Ford Everest large SUV – 26,494 (+75.8%)
    7. Toyota Corolla small car – 24,027 (+20.2%)
    8. Mazda CX-5 medium SUV – 22,835 (-1.1%)
    9. MG ZS small SUV – 22,629 (-22.7%)

I still don't see your point. Why does it matter to you what other people drive. It is none of your business. The way your acting makes me want to buy a twin cab ute .... sadly I just can't bring myself to do it though....

I'll say it again, other peoples choices are none of your business. I see nutter fools driving EV's around thinking they are saving the planet. This makes even less sense to me. At least a twin cab ute will be a functional useful vehicle for the next 25 years (rather than being thrown on the scrap heap when the battery dies). Don't these people care about the planet at all in there bloated overweight follies ???

Why don’t you dump the Defender and get a Shark?
So see this is the thing. It's everyones right to buy whatever they want. You want to drive a Ram on the school run. If you can pay for it then you're good to go. Go knock yourself out. You want to have a SUV/4x4 for Mum, Dad, and each of the kids. Again fine.

The problem is that Australias transport emissions are still growing. As emissions decline in other sectors (like electricity) it's going to be seen as a bigger target.

And so this is where the problem is. People are either "it's all bull" .. or are happy for someone else to drive something better leaving them to enjoy their Ram.

Whatever but something is going to have to change. How do we encourage people to make better choices? I see schemes like the NVES and various EV incentives as moves in the right direction. It's hard though. So many vested interests constantly trying to stay where we are.

The silly thing it's not about absolutes. We don't need to ban people in cities from buying SUV/4x4/DC's or tax the hell out of them. We just need some people to maybe say "We only need one DC in the family".

The problem is every "bad" vehicle we put on the road.. we're stuck with it for it's life so the emissions are locked in. We need to somehow get people to make better choices when they need a new car.

You ask me "Why don't I sell the defender and buy a shark?" How many times have I said "The best climate outcome is to walk, cycle or take public transport. If you can't/won't do that then the next best is keeping the car you have. If you can't do that, then when you buy another car maybe consider an EV. "

It doesn't matter to me. I'm 50's. I'll be right.

My kids on the other hand.. grand kids. It's going to be a big deal. I don't want to be the guy who just says "But everyone else just ignored the warnings too".

I'm not perfect but at least I've tried.

This is the point. I thought about finding something from the right wing media sites, but realised they don't report on that stuff.
