I have no doubt at all that the ICE manufacturers are hoping for a change of government.

I find it quite amusing that no-one who has an EV seems to have had a whinge about their purchase, on this erudite forum.

whinge list
- Golf clutch packs, water pumps
- A3 waterpumps
- Fiesta Nothing!
- MINI Pretty much everything.
- Landrover .. frankly I wouldn't know where to start. Might be easier to name the mechancicals that haven't been repaired. Which is pretty much only the engine core.


Tesla.
Interior mirror was a bit wobbly. There was a rattle from the hatch. Both fixed in a service visit. Actually a grill near the windscreen they said had warped on some cars but they came to our place and replaced it in 15 minutes. Even though ours was fine.

I really can't think of anything to whine about in terms of reliability.

Actually Tesla has this thing where they won't use normal rainsensors.. they use the cameras. So the wipers can be a bit random. Also they tend to judder a bit which I can't seem to ever fix. I reckon that's the worst thing. There.. that's my whinge.

EDIT: I do know that's probably hard to process. I know you all think I'm cray cray and not telling you about the bad stuff. My lease runs out soon and I'm contemplating what to do. The wife said "It's like a big lounge on wheels.. it just works.. just get another one".
EDIT Uh oh I thought of more stuff.

- If I stopped doing remote trips tomorrow I would happily just go back to a model Y. Id just fit a tow bar to it. It would do everything I need.
- After a couple of years of owning an EV I wouldn't go back to ICE. There are several people at my work that have bought them, and they are all the same.
- It's a mind (bird from the waterfowl species) that once you have the car the costs are pretty much just rego, insurance and tyres. So cheap to run.
- If you get rid of the most complex pieces of engineering in an ICE car, the rest is pretty reliable.
- Our battery is three years old. Degredation I believe is about 8/450k on a full charge. I don't care. It dropped a bit when new but hasn't changed since. Fear about battery degredation is massively overhyped.

I'm just saying - the more people who aren't reliant on imported fuel the more resilient our society is. History is full of black swan events and if the outside sources dry up we are in trouble. Conflicts in the middle east.. you never know.

It's good to have as much transport running on locally produced fuel, IMHO.

I don't actually know the answer - but I'm guessing it's a no to both questions...

No but the electricity is generated here, and even if it isn't solar the coal is mined here, and it's made in powerstations not too far away. So local product.

We really don't make anything here much any more. If we're lucky we supply the raw materials for the cars and panels.

None of this alters the issue that we don't really produce fuel in Aus, so it's mostly imported. And it would only take one supply chain interuption and we'd have unpopular choices to make about who gets fuel. The more ev's we have the less dependence!
