I was at a regulator workshop the other week and it was mentions the first all electric front end loader was about the be delivered to a mine in NSW.
I didn’t get a chance to fin out manufacturer
It’d be interesting to see the costing breakdown between price of an electric heavy machine compared to diesel.
"Land Rover - making mechanics out of everyday motorists for nearly 70 years"
Mt Isa used to have some electric vehicles for use underground.
They introduced them because it was cheaper than diesel based on the distance they were transporting the ore underground.
Apparently when the distance they were transporting the ore changed it was no longer the cheaper option, so they pushed all but one of them down a shaft. The one survivor was added to the museum collection.
It seems that in spite of the huge amount of recyclable materials in them, it wasn't wort dismantling them to bring to the surface. They had been assembled underground.
That information is based on my recollection from a few years ago of what I read and was told on a mine tour. I hope it is all accurate.
1973 Series III LWB 1983 - 2006
1998 300 Tdi Defender Trayback 2006 - often fitted with a Trayon slide-on camper.
I read that at the moment EV versions are more expensive to build, but have much lower running and maintenance costs.
This was interesting Shame not a lot more of it yet. "One key player in this mining revolution is the Swedish tech giant Sandvik. With over 150 years of experience in advanced engineering solutions (including for the mining industry), they are well placed to take the lead in this area too."
This surprised me a little "Amazingly, electrification also opens the possibility of getting more bang for your buck when it comes to mining equipment too. Top-performing electrified electrical vehicles can have twice the horsepower of an equivalent diesel machine, often of the same size. They are also lighter, meaning they can travel faster"
