    Interesting.

The SUV looks like a cross between the D4 and the D5:

Edit: and it has air suspension, with up to 365mm clearance .....

And it will come with the option of this slide-out kitchen, complete with induction cooker and Snow Peak cutlery, tools and crockery:

"Rivian to rival Tesla, others as it explores the 'adventure' nicheElectric-vehicle maker Rivian Automotive Inc. is set to become a public company, hoping to carve a niche for itself offering EVs for the great outdoors.
Rivian filed for a confidential IPO in August and publicly submitted the paperwork with security regulators last week. The company is seeking to sell $100 million worth of shares, although that's often a placeholder used to calculate fees.
Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) and Ford Motor Co. (F) are among Rivian's backers. The EV maker has raised $10.5 billion since 2019 after several investment rounds, with the latest a $2.5 billion funding round in July, led by Amazon.com's Climate Pledge Fund, Ford, and T. Rowe Price funds, among others.
Besides an electric pickup truck and an electric SUV, Rivian also plans to make electric delivery vans for Amazon and have its own charging network. Its IPO comes after several EV startups have gone public, and as the market is about to welcome several electric pickup trucks and SUVs."

Oddly I suspect ford, GM, Toyota and VW types to pick up speed and almost wipe out some of the NEW bloods.

Once Brandon gets done with his 500,000 charging stations across the US maybe he can start here. I'm all for EVs when they become viable outside of inner city stuff, but holding my breath I am not.

However, I do like Rivian's innovation. I expect Musk will buy them. Tesla will need to further their passage down from luxury to mainstream. Maybe Rivian is that path.

Just guessing. I'm too old for it to matter to me, but I'm still young enough to be interested.

I think you are mistaken if you think Rivian is "mainstream" rather than luxury. It is aimed squarely at the "Rangerover" market, not the "Hilux" market, let alone the "Hyundai" market, and I expect it to appear on the market here with a sticker well above Tesla.

What it could do, although is unlikely to in the near future, is extend the appeal of EVs to the most popular segment of the Australian market, but like the Tesla, is almost certainly going to be far too expensive to be more than a small player, at least for a while. It is likely though to expand the EV market by attracting those who really want an EV, and have the money, but are not interested in a sedan. And would not buy something as bizarre looking and as big as Tesla's cybertruck (assuming that this ever becomes available).

I just stumbled across this video of a Rivian climbing Hells Gate in USA.
