Another use for coal power stations ?

    Greetings all.
stumbled across this site while researching something else . as you do :-)
the site host doesn't appear to be tied to any industry etc . my guess he has a big following of like minded folks who like to " think outside the box "
numerous videos on a range of ideas / systems in development around the world. most about the generation / use / storage of energy .
    well worth a look .
this one is all about the re-use of old coal power stations .
    gofer :-)

    this is fairly good.

I dont know if a decomissioned coal fired generator is the ideal way to go though.

What is a good idea is to forward think the closing down of some units ....eg several here in Australia reaching the "end" of their life.

The biggest problem I think , is the cost of changeover from one thermal source to another , considering the current "decreasing" costs of alternate power generation sources and storage facilities as more and more come online throughout the world.

One of the huge advantages of alternate power generation in its current forms is the fact that most , almost all , require no water to provide steam and then to keep things cool.

Because of the basic ability to quickly build power generation facilities near to the source of energy there is no need for centralized areas of power generation , vis Hazelwood etc.

There is also a counter argument here , that provides an already existing workforce , that also maintains an existing public infrasructure of schools , shops , churches, entertainment and much other tagged on industries as a result of a live population base.

Alternate power generation as we currently know is much smaller than most people realise and there is still to be hugely massive changes to take place around the world.
