18 months ago, I bought a thin flexible solar panel that I glued to a 6mm marine ply board that slides out from under the roof rack when needed. It easily puts out 9.6 amps & is rated at 300-350 watts.
Unfortunately, on a trip around New Year, on returning to Melb on the Princess Hwy, I decided to brake a bit heavily to enter a wayside stop & had forgot to tie the thing in place. It shot off my roof, cleared the bonnet & skidded off down the highway. I had to get off the highway & watch as a light truck & about 10 cars behind it then ran over it- luckily not flipping it up at all.
My first thought was to remove it - complete with tyre marks- & chuck it, but thought I better do the right thing & brought it home. It seemed in reasonable nick- the terminal on it was smashed up, so I cut it off & soldered on a couple of wires instead, hooked it up & viola- it works just fine & has done so since.
Its one of those things that makes you shake your head in wonder

Wow that is an amazing panel. Now here is an amazing technological breakthrough if it can be made commercially, basically an infrared sensitive diode that gathers energy emitted into space at night.
