Why is it so? Wind turbine blades
Hi All,
Last month I'm out on the ocean off Portland doing cray stuff and looking at the old school wind turbines on shore. (Cape Nelson, Cape Bridgewater, etc)
When looked at sideways to the disk of blade rotation, the blade tips were flexed towards the wind direction.
I'm thinking the tip speed / aerofoil shape / blade flex is causing the tips to actually be pulling air.
On the way back from a fish job up north last week I went past a number of much newer turbines and all the tips of the blades were flexed away from the wind direction, as one would expect.
Any knowledgeable comments about this?
cheers, DL
