The number 19 radio set was a WW2 era set built in very large numbers ( primarily for amrmoured vehicles , tanks etc) . It was in use into the 1950's, including in Australia . The radio on top , is the 31 set, a British copy of the late WW2 era U.S. BC1000 back pack radio , VHF . The Brits made a copy of it in 1948 .

The first image is a graphic artist's reproduction of original Ministry of Defence photographs. That one and others were uncovered by Andrew Tostevin from South Australia and are published on the REMLR site.

The 19 Set was HF, cumbersom and quite susceptable to contamination from water ingress etc in wartime service. It was essentially superseded in 1945 by the WS 62 set which was designed into a weatherproof case for carrying on the back of mules etc. The WS 62 was also ideal for use in light aircraft where HF communication was desired.

Yes well spotted , a couple of the pics are Jeep ! . The manual is interesting in that on the cover , it shows a 80"series 1 , a WW2 JEEP AND A CHAMP, ALL together serving in the British army !

yes Diana .. the 62 set was a late WW2 designed set .. a batch of them were rebuilt here in Victoria ..mid 1950's by PYE in Melbourne .
