Hi all,

I've done a search and there doesn't seem to be much about fitting LED interior lights to the D3. I know they have issues on trailers, but do the interior lights rely on current draw to control anything else?

Cheers

Got two LED strips on mine to replace the standard cargo light which is as powerful as an old age asthmatic glow worm with a dirty lens on its light. No effect on trailer electrics at all, worry not. Current draw will be less too.

No, I know because the glow worm crawled into the car next to the light and then dazzled us with its backside.
Me, in the garden? That would be a snort of amusement to all my friends and the dream of my wife.

Thanks all. Looks like I can replace those dim originals with some decent interior lights. :)

Then there's this guy, check out his stuff:
eBay Seller: led-dna: Electronics, Home items on eBay Australia (http://shop.ebay.com.au/led-dna/m.html)
I have bought a few of his waterproof flexible led strips and a couple of his high power leds. They are simply awesome.

Thanks for all the stores and suppliers - looks like I might to Jaycar to start with (easy to get to, nice prices) on the inside. That eBay seller looks great to get some nice waterproof strips, attach them to the underside of the car to get that street look, and then hook them up to the bass... :P

Try Bright Lights Auto Parts - Welcome to the home of Bright Lights Auto Parts (http://www.brightlightautoparts.com/) they do some large LED matrix interior light globe replacements that negate the need for wiring in LED strip lights.

Per the jpgs below, I added some LED lighting to the cargo area. The lights are mounted to the upper plastic cover at the rear and connected thru a SPST rocker switch to the existing W5W rear hatch light, (purple is +, black is _).

Assuming the switch is ON, the LEDs illuminate whenever the interior lights go on. In use, I have the lights pointing downwards to the floor of the cargo area. The two 15 LED lights provide a surprising degree of illumination.

The LEDs are very directional and as such, do not illuminate the rear glass surfaces, only the floor area. Also the lights are mounted high enough up that they are not visible in the rear view mirror.

I also noted that, even though mounted at the far rear, they would serve as good reading lights for not only the third row of seats, but also the second row of seats if they were aimed more forward rather than downwards.

The fact the lights come mounted on hinged brackets allows for this additional flexibility.

The lights I used came from a local auto parts supply shop, however I note that the Model BL-104W Work Lights displayed on the Australian Bright Light Auto Parts web site http://www.brightlightautoparts.com/files/BL-104W2.pdf appear to be very similar to what I installed.
