I know I've said I wouldn't buy another Landie until LRA smartened up and got dealers or some decent service centres outside the metro WA area which could do warranty work, but I'm sorely tempted!
Spotted a Puma Defender in a Tojo dealers at $48990 drive away with only 5300klms on the clock.
It's supposedly a trade on a lesser vehicle because of marital probs. and the neccesity to realise some funds to pay off the soon to be ex-wife :D of somebody.
It's a 2009 build and totally unmarked but with no extras of any kind.
So I had a quick look on Wednesday and went back again today and they've dropped the price to $46990!
The cook may kill me and as someone said on Sunday (before I'd seen this vehicle) "May I remind you that you sold a Defender not long ago".
That was after I said I'd been talking to a salesman at the stealers a few days previously.
Oh woe is me, what to do? Risk a painful death when the cook cuts off my beer supply or do the deed and buy?
HELP.[biggrin]
Alan.

Totally agree. She would love any of the following, I'm sure, and it would make for a seamless transition from stealer to driveway:

A subscription to Land Rover Enthusiast magazine;
Top Gear Polar, Vietnam and Botswana dvd's;
Fifty Things a Good Housewife Can Do For Her Man;
A life size poster of Keira Knightley to hang in the workshop....

Sorted...:D :wasntme:

"Can you afford it"! Who said that? How dare they! Of course the Cook may have to do without one or two things for a while, but then I'm sure she'll appreciate it..........one day.:eek:

interesting,that would be a good question.:cool:

A Toyota dealer, particularly a country one, would not have traded high on a Land Rover. They have brought it into stock owing them a considerable amount less than the asking price. Try an offer of $40,000, no trade, cash. If no result go back with the same offer a few days before the end of the month. Often a salesman/sales manager whose figures are poor has been threatened with the sack if no improvement.

Now now Bradley, you know scratches never bother me as the Cook can polish them out.:eek:
And the Cook does know and is unimpressed as she loves the Prado:D She's always shown such good taste before;) After all she did marry me!
If I thought they'd go for it Brian I'd offer 40K and in fact if they've still got it on Monday I might do that.
After all, nothing ventured nothing gained as someone once said.
A Tojo dealer servicing a Landie!!!!! I don't think so. The thought is horrible as they mostly hold them in contempt, know even less than stealers do about them and the opportunities that would give them while it's in the workshop don't bear thinking about.

make sure you leave enough change for a tube of sickaflex for the dust leaks and some wire and pipe protection under neath some after market suspension and then there a top car enjoy:)

Dust and water leaks are all part of being a Defender owner and are to be enjoyed.... the dust comes in and the water washes it out again!:D

Grab a beer, sit down and shut the eyes.....and imagine:

You didn't buy it:( The bloke down the road bought it.

Each day you drive past it. The beautiful beast is parked in his drive. Your stomach has that queezy feeling each morning when you look at that box-shaped, all conquering Defender.:mad:

You go shopping. Damn there it is, in the shopping car-park.

As you reach to open the door of the Japanese Gumboot (aka Prado) that damned feeling in the guts hits you again. :(

It could have been yours.:)

Then you look again, another Defender is driving into the car-park, the owner of "The Defender that could of been yours" is about to open his driver's door, he turns to look at the Defender entering the car-park and they wave to each other. Yes, the Land Rover wave.

No one waves to you.:(

No one cares about you or your Prado. No one notices you on your journey home. You see a Discovery coming towards you, this cheers you.:o

I'll wave, you say. And you do. The Disco driver doesn't even look at you.

Wake up quick:eek: Thank God it was only a nightmare.;)

You grab another beer and walk out to the driveway and sit. Just sit and look at the Defender that you virtually stole. The feeling in the stomach is total joy.:D

Yeah, you had a few nights sleeping in the doghouse and your mates are giving you a hard-time about your Palmolive dishwashing hands. Lucky she loves you. If your happy, she will be happy.;)

Stop it Barra1, stop it! Everything you say is true, I do wave at Defenders and no one waves back, I do look at them in carparks and you're 'orrible for saying all those things.:D
The one thing the Cook really misses is the Landie wave from one loony to another.......I just might try that one on her.:eek:
I may try a low offer tomorrow and see what happens.
Alan.

Good luck, Alan. I'm sure whatever you do will be right. From my own point of view there is something unfulfilled about a Landy man in a Prado. You just look at it and say to yourself, I wish it hadn't turned out that way..

Ive seen it happen twice before:

First one was a young guy who had the maturity and taste to own a white 93 D1 V8 two door. Would you believe that car never gave him a moment's trouble. It was passed on to his bother who passed it to another brother and it's still going pulling horse floats. He also had an S3 trayback which he sold/gave to a farmer as a fire tender. Now has kids and a Prado. Reckons he's happy but it's a lie.

Another mate, older bloke retired now who I go trekking with and a D1 Tdi. In the end it started giving him trouble. Not all it's fault, it got cooked towing a float, the old temp gauge tells you when it's too late thing and then his wife fiilled it with petrol. They now have a Prado which they like but just the other night a friend told me he came up to him and said "can I listen to you start your Disco?" He has a shorty for getting round his block but it's not the same as going camping in a proper car.

Buy it. Tell you better half (or in some cases our better three quarters ) that you know you are taking a chance. Tell her that you took a chance on her and look how well it has turned out. Just tell her that you are just trying to repeat the ultimate experience. Besides where else can you run your hands over such magnificent curves and still stay faithful to your better half (or better three quarters). Try it with a soft cloth after a good waxing- I am talking about the Puma here. It is a very, very satisfying experience. Believe me, I have done it-slowly, very very s-l-o -w-l-y.
If that argument does not work bring in the carwax, cloth and chamois and utter those immortal words "Lie down" and wave the carwax, cloth and chamois in your beloved's face. I think that should swing it. I hope this helps.

Mmmmm sometimes I think you're all a bit strange the way you think of Landies..... then I look in the mirror and know you are:D
Anyway, I spoke to the dodgy salesman today and they're being just a touch disingenuous in calling the Stamp Suty the "licence transfer fees". So it's 46990K plus 3050K S/Duty which makes it only about 4 grand less than a brand new one!
He deliberately told porkies when I asked if that was the drive away price and did it include the above mentioned and it's a good job I checked their website as I may have been caught and then the Cook would definitely have done something nasty to me!!!!:o
But what I will do after such a near miss is wait 9 months (bit like being pregnant I suppose), check what LRA have done about dealers/warranty work etc. in the bush and then if things have improved order a new one if there's no good second hand pre loved never been off road:cool: ones going in Perth.

Bit of an update on my being tempted to buy the Puma. The price went from 48990 to 47990 to 46990 and then I went South for a couple of weeks and lost touch.
Then when I returned I checked their website and it was down to 42990.
All these prices were nett of SD.
I emailed a fellow LROCWA member that the new price made it a fairly reasonable buy and he rang them only to be told they'd sold it to the stealers for 41K but if he could get that amount to them by such and such time he could have it for that price.
He couldn't so off to Southern Land Rover it went and they now want 46990 for it plus SD!
This makes it back over 50K and not worth it compared to a new price of around 54K drive away inclusive of SD.
Alan.
