07 Tdci Sway bar bolts

Took the Deefa for her first prospecting/relic hunting expedition last weekend. Around 100km of badly corrugated wet-season roads and some lumpy creek crossings. Got back and the rear right-hand sway bar bolt (that fixes the sway bar to the little drop-arm) was gone and the left hand one was very loose. Didnt bother LR dealer with a warranty claim for a $20 part but suffice to say the new one has lots of loctite on the nut. Macca.

stuff the bolt, how'd you go with the yellow stuff?

Ah yes Loctite...a substance that LR regards as equal in value as gold gram for gram.

I reckon there is a whole department at LR devoted to dispensing the substance in order to protect the bottom line and it is staffed by accountants who couldn't tell the difference between loctite and denture grip. If the vehicle you bought was at the end of the rationed run then your LR will have things falling off.

I imagine the weekly production meetings where the first item on the agenda is Loctite expenditure, why we've exceeded quota and how can we cut back.

Well no yellow stuff in the kick, but the missus found an old English Farthing coin with the metal detector. Not sure of the current exchange rate for 19th century farthings to the AU dollar but suspect I may not have covered the trip costs. Perhaps I should have offered the Farthing as payment for the bolt. All that aside, the Defender was magic, luv that engine/gearbox setup off road. Just have to train it to find the mother lode for me and all will be sweet.

Interesting, my sway bars have nylocs on the bolts. That said there's a few loose nylocs been encountered on the Puma.

Mahn, you've definitely got the assumption about loctite right. I don't think they use more than one small bottle per weekly production run.

Would removing the sway bar completely cause any warranty issues? - you could always say If questioned "it must have just fallen off". entirely believable :(

What detector are you running? would love to get up north and give it a crack

1. The nuts were nylocks but they came off anyway.

2. We are using Garrett VLFs the ground in the local goldfields is pretty quiet, just a few hot rocks so the big PIs are no real advantage. - most of our time we relic hunt ghost towns all over NQ in between the gold trips. My missus found a lovely 3.9 grammer with her ACE 250 coin detector would you believe it.

So I wasn't confused. Mine are OK on the sway bars, same can't be said for a few others.

Oh, by the way: CHECK YOUR BONNET HINGE BOLTS.

Ours did exactly the same thing at about 14 months old after some heavy corregated roads. :o

All good now, for a long time.....

I have lost the nylock bolt from the front left sway bar attachment, does not seem to have any effect on cornering handling. New bolts on back order been 3 weeks already. Would be better without it as the front swaybar does seem to restrict articulation off road with no real gains on.

My mates patrol loses swaybar bolts regularly... on tarmac!

My bomb lost both bolts down south somewhere so I ended up removeing both swaybars. I think like you that it seems to have little effect on cornering and the ride is better

Ive painted some little yellow drift marks on the new ones so I can see whats going on down there ....
