just went out to get some food - 5mins later.... *Bang* on the rangie roof!!!

The size was huge - never seen hail so big before - fangged the rangie round the back of the shops & parked close to the building - was awesome! :)

Good rain as well :) just thought I'd share :)

Call from my son in Caroline Springs about an hour ago -

"There's been this tremendous hailstorm and the gutters and the roof gully are filled with hailstones and the roof is leaking!"

Not sure what I was supposed to do 1,000km away! Both his cars were under cover, although a bit wet underfoot - the hail banked up and made a dam so the water ran under the doors.

My wife was in the city & left her Disco out in the street. I was expecting the storm but not hailstones the size of 20c coins +.
By the time I found her keys & got it in the carport I was drenched. Jeez those hailstones hurt when they hit your bald patch !!:p

We just got hit by golf ball size hailstones here in the Dandenong Ranges.
The wife's Falcon wagon his peppered with dents in the roof and bonnet, The disco as a few also.
Now has any one had these type of dents repaired successfully.
Seems it'll cost us out basic excess of around $500 for each vehicle, so I don't know how much the repair bill is yet.
But the Falcon has an agreed value of only $3750, and the Disco 1996 V8 is market value, so probably very little value knowing the insurance

Yep.

Disco II...smashed windscreen, smashed scupper plate?? numerous dents in bonnet, roof ect. She's stuffed.

House....holes peppered through lazerlite pergola roof. Numerous tree branches down.

You just don't know how I feel....

yeah while the rangie copped a few to the roof I can't see any damage - I thought the roof racks might have helped there as I have a wire mesh with them as well :D

Friends in Lysterfield have had a Corolla and 100 Series cruiser trashed and windows on the house broken. We got off light with some water back washing over the the fascias and coming inside via the window frames.

Spent the last few hours boarding up windows at my mates house in Lysterfield. They copped it much worse than we did in Bayswater. My Rangie has a few addition dents in the roof.
My mates house has 7 broken windows, his 2 month old Rangie Sport is a write off as his Mercedes van and his mother in laws rav 4.

Even the steel meshed security door on the house has holes torn through it.

Father inlaw got a work car repaired up here from hail damage. He got them all out and no painting necessary and a A1 job, you would never know. I don't know what the cost was though.

IVe seen hail dents sucked out with a toilet plunger before today....

clean the panel, wipe it dry then give it a thin wipe of oil and have at it.

when your done rewash the panel.

Well i feel like ****!
Mum's car is the only one we really care about and it always gets the spare garage spot. Except i put the Land Rover in last night to do the lift, leaving hers outside.
It's now sporting a few little dings in the bonnet/roof/boot..bugger!

Sounding like a firing range under the Pergola (laserlite) roof!

I had a mate who called cellulite on girl's thighs "hail damage".

I always think about that when I see cars that have copped it.

So what are we saying here lads ?

Not only do I have panel damage, the windscreen is shattered and bottom plate that covers the wiper motor area(scupper plate?) is smashed as well.

So I'm up for a screen & scupper plate atleast and yet I am unable to claim any of it on insurance.

This is going to get very messy.

After waiting for over an hour on the phone yesterday my partner got through to the RACV who were pretty helpful. All she has to do is take it to an RACV repairer and they will do the job. They also give you a taxi voucher to get home and back to the repairer. And the main thing is she wont lose her rating one.But $500 excess claim:(

My old 4wd truck is now sporting a broken windscreen.Considering that the windscreen on the truck is near vertical it was a dam good hit. Also my sons two ute`s have that golf ball texture now.My land rover? has a few dents in the roof, but some could have been there before. Was lucky though as we have in our roof two sky lights which are the old fibre glass sheeting and not a mark.

Went to a house in Traralgon today to try get the power back on for the insurance company after lightning hit it. Not only was the whole house full of water but lightning hit the back corner of the house and blew a heap of tiles off and opened the roof up (owners were standing in that room at the time:eek:)
But that wasn't the amazing bit. When the lightning hit the BACK corner of the house it blew the carport in the FRONT corner (timber, made from 240x45 pine and 100x100 posts) up and over the house, cleared the pool, cleared the back fence and landed in a pile in the footy oval behind it:eek::eek:.
When i got there i had no idea there was even a carport there in the firstplace

Was interested today driving around and spotting all the cars that had been hit. Had to feel sorry for a bloke in a commodore though. Brand new GTS, nice and loud, clearly his pride and joy. absolutely peppered with dints. Roof, bonnet, boot even the front guards, A/B/C Pillars, both drivers side doors (that's the side we could see) etc...

Haven't heard any reports of injury which was lucky! looking at the pics and the damage caused to cars, you'd be in some serious trouble if one got you on the head!

These pics are from a Facebook group, so hopefully they'll work.

Glad we didn't get any hail.

We did get the mother of railfall and a lightning strike close enough to shake the house silly.

Glad we have been redoing the deck! It still flooded but the water had receeded by this morning without using the flood pump!:D
I will have to dig up one of the drain points again as it is now encased in clay and mud:eek:

I went through Ferntree gully, I reckon there will be a lots of new Land cruisers and other toyos and and Nisans/ Hondas going cheap. The local Car yards look like a they copped a hiding. Now's the time to pen a windscreen business, the demand might outweigh the supply!

I copped damage to both cars, one broken front window, and my boat cover is shredded.

Werner Toyota is a write off. Out of 250 odd cars, 180 have hail damage. Their new showroom has been damaged as well. Reported claim of $8 million but will be higher.

I find the photo of the Commodore with the broken rear window interesting- it is not shattered and you can see where the hail has gone straight through the glass - how fast would they be going to do that.
I happened to be in Kew around 2:30pm on Saturday and copped a bit of hail and a down pour, then got to Greensborough where it was sunny until 3:30pm, when it started to rain. Decided to head home along the hume and at Wallan it started to hail, was driving about 70Km/hr, about 15 - 20 min later blue sky again, until Murchision where I again encountered hail. I pulled off to the side of the road where it was safe, as I could not see the road infront of me.
Shepparton copped it bad, trees down all over the place. Where I live just rain, did not know such a storm happened so close until I heard it on the news that night.

I reckon could be over 200mph. Just guessing but that is the terminal velocity of a falcon in a nose dive (The feathered variety:p). Haven't taken into account wind gusts that could have easily been 100knots in the downburst.

Part replace, part Paintless Dent Removal, new screen & scuttle plate. Interesting to note that the new bonnet is $1500. Thats just for the part, no paint, no decals  Surprising to note the windscreen is $185...cheap :D

As I said before...this is going to get messy. Running on payout figuire, 60 - 75% of that equals very close to write off territory.

The two governing factors are that the vehicle is in excellent condition for its age and a Td5.
