Hi,
I have been searching for an A/T tyre for my Disco 4 3.0TD.
I don't need a mud terrain as such, just something with a more agressive tread than the 19" factory tyres.

I don't know about being much more aggressive but Pirelli ATRs are popular as a more robust replacement. I put them on mine for this reason.

Thanks Graeme. I am assuming that you are happy with them. Have you been off road to try them?

Just half an hour ago I used the mud & ruts setting to easily drive through some significant mud that washed from my paddocks during some storms we had here thisafternoon, including easily reversing uphill with the left wheels deep in the muddy edge of the "road" to get past the vehicle I was chaperoning out of my property. The rear locker may have helped but I was quite pleased with the effortless task.

Thanks Graeme. Just didn't want to spend money unnecessarily.

There are also these tyres that were spotted in a show in NSW late last year,
An AULROian had suggested that these were coming in the 19" version to Australia.
Continental Tyres Australia -ContiCrossContact AT (http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/au/en/continental/tyres/themes/4x4-tyres/conticrosscontact-at/conticrosscontact-at-en,tabNr=.html)

Not sure of there availability of yet, but i know they are made in 18" versions as we have seen a few at work. (even though the website fails to list them?)
Just another option possibly.;)

Thanks Sniegy,
Clicked on the link. The tread looks agressive enough for what I want.

Have a look at this thread:

covers off the Contis quite nicely.......

Those might not aquaplane as much either.

On one occasion my ATRs slipped sideways half a lane right in front of a large 4wd towing a van, just after I had sneaked past him in fairly heavy rain on a freeway on a slight curve. They've also done other minor skates so something with a more open tread would probably do better in these circumstances.

The ATRs have only a shallow tread depth, or rather a shallow groove, in the outside blocks so I suspect their adhesion capabilities will dimish significantly with a little wear. I'm hoping to fit something better next time but the Conti AT has some catching-up to do if its to overtake the ATR's good reputation.

According to Continental (Germany) as of yesterday there are no plans to bring out the AT in the 19" size :(
Still waiting for the reply from Dunlop, although that's for a slightly oversize 275/55/19.
Cheers,
Gordon
