Good evening viewers
When I told Cheryl that we were sneaking out to Yamba for the weekend… and that I had put us down to clean up the beach between Yamba and Evans Heads, I don’t think she heard the bit about Clean Up Australia Day.
So off to Yamba we go, stayed in a nice motel called Moby Dicks, it has verandas which look out cross the river, very nice for only $140. We had a nice Italian meal and hit the sack early. :censored:
Tide was low at 9am so we were off around 8:30, we had spoken to the nice man at the BP who gave us the drum on the beaches. You turn off the highway at Iluka, then onto the beach at Shark Bay.
Doing our bit we stopped for plastic bags, they kill turtles you know.

We were told that you could exit the beach at Jerusalem Creek, we traveled north but found the water up to the rocks already, not knowing the exit, we decided to return to Shark Bay and not risk being caught on the wrong side of the rocks.
On the way up we had seen several large bits of junk, we had debated whether to drag them or not. Upon our return to Shark Bay we run into the real Clean up Australia Day crowd. We made the offer to go fetch the junk, which they gladly rushed to accept, they did not have a 4wd at there disposal.
So off Cheeky romped to help out :)

Further down we found a tyre so we added that as well.

You never know what you will pick up on the beach

Cheeky and Cheryl looking very happy with their efforts

So after our morning and the plan to drive north and exit near Woodburn kaput, we headed along the highway, Cheeky muttering how she would rather be on the beach.
Just after Broadwater we spotted a sign saying 4wd access, so east we turned, finding the beach, we drove north getting in site of Balina across the river.
Stopping for Lunch on the beach was very pleasant. and a clean beach behind us

Next year maybe we should get involved with Clean Up Australia Day as a club; for real…
Cheers
