How well does it work?

It's better than nothing. ;)

Seriously - it's ok but struggles on a really hot day. Main problem for the driver is that the vents are blocked by the steering column. You can keep you knees and the keys really cool. If you don't have a passenger then pointing the passenger side vents at the driver can help.

We have a 110 station wagon and we put clear plastic over the cargo barrier in the back and I think that has helped. :) It really is a huuuge area it has to contend with.

Good idea with the plastic to reduce cabin area.

But it does work , kinda okay?

I agree with others - it sort of works. Just make sure it is fully gassed-up, the fan is clean and in top condition. Also, you need to be sure that the condensate drain is properly inserted through the firewall in the passenger's footwell or there will be a puddle in the car and rain water can also get in there.

If you are the only person in the car, it helps to direct all the left hand side vents towards you as well so all 4 are blowing in your direction.

It is odd. I was travelling for over a week in 45 degrees plus heat last November. I was paranoid that it wouldn't cope, but it did remarkably well all things considered. I have a 2 yo & a 6yo and neither complained nor looked heat affected. Whether it is because it wasn't humid I don't know.

The clear pvc didviding the cab is a good idea and it is on the to-do list as is window tinting. Get it cool to start with and it copes better.

It is pretty crap when compared to other vehicles though.

Cheers

It's certainly not great though my girlfriend managed to chill her stinking hot bottle of water with it which provide a nice refreshing drink for the both of us. The cone of cold is quite small encompassing knees and steering wheel. If you get the vents just right you can just about a bit of breeze on your face.

I've only used it a erw times as i prefer to use the windows & front vents that do a great job unless its reading bloody hot on the temperature dooby.

Look our ac in our defender is quite acceptable. If you turn it on high it is very effective at cooling the cabin at extreme temperatures. The thing that annoys me about it is that it is AMAZINGLY LOUD on high. It's so loud that you can't talk.

Also, there is a huge step between 2 and 3. Some days I find that we can be cool and deaf, or warm and able to converse. We have thought of getting some sort of variable control put in place but I bet it would cost a bomb.
